The video chat app from Korean startup HyperConnect, Azar, was once again on the list of Europe’s most beloved apps and ranked 6th in terms of revenue generation in 2020. According to data released by the The Sensor Tower mobile app market research company for the European mobile market, Azar is the only Korean app to make the list.
The app was ranked 6th among all non-gaming apps in 2020, after Tinder, Netflix, YouTube, Disney +, and Google One. Azar was also ranked 4th on the Google Play Store. In 2019, Azar had reached the 4th revenue-generating application in Europe after Tinder, Netflix and YouTube!
European mobile consumers spent around $ 14.8 billion on the App Store and Google Play in 2020, according to Sensor Tower Store intelligence The data. This represents a 31% increase in gross revenue year over year compared to 2019, based on user spending for in-app purchases, subscriptions and premium apps. In 2021, Hyperconnect entered the North American market with âSLIDEâ, a video-driven social discovery and dating app. Hyperconnect, which touted SoftBank among its investors, later launched a live streaming service dubbed Hakuna Live which recorded more than 10 million downloads in its first year. Together, revenue in the first half of 2020 was 123.5 billion Korean won ($ 113.3 million), up 80% year-on-year, while operating profit climbed 265 % to 17.7 billion Korean won ($ 16.2 million).
